Job summary

BC Community Alliance is seeking an experienced British Columbia lawyer to develop and deliver the Safe Schools Legal Access Hub, a community-based initiative improving access to justice for Black students and families facing racism in education. Qualifications

  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia is required.
  • At least three years of relevant practice in human rights, education, administrative law, discrimination, or public-interest law.
  • Excellent research, analysis, and writing abilities; ability to explain concepts clearly.
  • Ability to translate legal concepts into plain language for diverse audiences.
  • Discretion, confidentiality, and professional judgment are essential.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills; work independently.
  • Experience with equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed approaches is valued.
  • Willingness to complete a criminal-record and vulnerable-sector check; eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical legal advice on racism, discrimination, and human rights in education.
  • Review matters referred through BCCA’s hubs and guide families on rights and remedies.
  • Advise on school discipline, accommodations, and related education concerns.
  • Guide families through district procedures and human rights processes.
  • Develop resources and public legal education materials; deliver webinars and clinics.
  • Collaborate with staff, navigators, and partners; refer matters to external counsel when needed.
