Job summary

The City of Toronto's Seniors Services & Long-Term Care division is hiring part-time laundry attendants across several LTCH homes in Scarborough and Etobicoke. You will handle linen and clothing, operate washing equipment, and support residents with compassionate care.

Willingness to work weekends and various shifts is required. Police reference checks and immunization proofs may be requested as part of employment. Location includes Seven Oaks LTCH and Wesburn Manor LTCH, among others.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating washing equipment and handling linens.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with residents and staff.
  • Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS and related regulations.
  • Ability to perform various cleaning duties and lift/move heavy items.
  • Willingness to work weekends, shifts and holidays as required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains linens and residents' belongings.
  • Picks up soiled laundry from resident rooms and returns cleaned laundry.
  • Operates washer and dryer.
  • Folds clean laundry or hangs laundry as appropriate.
  • Attaches and removes labels from residents' clothing; mends and performs minor repairs.
  • Attends staff and committee meetings as part of a cooperative team approach for residents' wellbeing.
  • Operates heat seal machine and labels residents' clothes.
  • Performs laundry inventory and supplies.
  • Attends in-services training as required.
  • Responds appropriately to residents' needs.

Vulnerable individuals who reside in the community are supported through adult day programs, supportive housing services, tenancy support and homemakers and nurses services. Major Responsibilities:
  • Maintains linens and residents' belongings.
  • Picks up soiled laundry from resident rooms and returns cleaned laundry.
  • Operates washer and dryer.

  • Attaches and removes labels from residents' clothing, mends and performs minor repairs (sews by hand or operates sewing machine).
  • Attends staff and committee meetings as part of a co-operative team approach for the wellbeing of the residents.
  • Operates heat seal machine and labeling residents' cloths
  • Perform laundry inventory supplies.
  • Attends in-services training as required.
  • Responds appropriately to residents' needs.
Key Qualifications:
  • Experience in laundry or housekeeping services, including the cleaning, handling, maintenance, and organization of linens and clothing.
  • Experience working in a commercial or institutional environment, such as a long-term care home, hospital, or other health or community care setting.
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
  • General knowledge of washing equipment, textiles and laundry formulae.
  • Ability to maintain co-operative working relationships with residents and staff.
  • Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS and other legislation and regulations that relate to this work.
  • Ability to perform various cleaning duties.
  • Ability to operate, lift and move various equipment and heavy items.
  • Willingness to work weekends, shifts and holidays as required.
  • Willingness to cross train in other departmental positions based on operational needs.
  • Ability and willingness to provide a service that enhances the dignity and respects the diversity of residents.
  • Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity and respectful workplaces.
Additional Information:

Hours of Work can be up to 70 hours bi-weekly, however, Hours of Work will be decided based on operational needs.

As a condition of employment with the Seniors Services & Long-Term Care Homes, selected candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Reference Check (PRC) with vulnerable sector screening, tuberculosis screening and proof of immunization in accordance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021(O. Reg 246/22).
