Job summary

County of Simcoe is seeking a Housekeeping/Laundry Aide (SEIU Service) for a temporary part-time position in Orillia, Ontario. The role supports long-term care and seniors services by performing general housekeeping and laundry duties within established procedures.

Responsibilities include deep cleaning, delivering clothing to residents, waste management, and participating in infection control and quality improvement initiatives. Shift variety includes days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Completion of grade 11 or equivalent.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within 6 months of hire.
  • TB testing as per Public Health requirements.
  • Minimum 3 months of related commercial experience.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping / laundry equipment and processes.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Housekeeping/Laundry Aide is responsible for performing general housekeeping/laundry duties within established procedures, in accordance with the policies of the Home and applicable legislation. As a valued member of Long Term Care and Seniors Services, the Housekeeping/Laundry Aide demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organization’s mission and vision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)
  1. 1. Perform all general housekeeping / laundry duties as required.
  2. 2. Deep cleaning and disinfecting of requested areas or rooms as required.
  3. 3. Deliver and distribute personal clothing to resident rooms.
  4. 4. Pick up and deliver exchange linen/personals carts and soiled bins.
  5. 5. Assist with waste management processes.
  6. 6. Assists with orientation of new staff.
  7. 7. Assumes an active role in the infection control program in accordance with the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC).
  8. 8. Upon request, assist in the implementation of quality management mechanisms such as home audits (e.g., resident home area).
  9. 9. Participate in committees as required.
  10. 10. Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, committee meetings, workshops etc. as directed by immediate Supervisor.
  11. 11. Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices into all day to day activities. Follows all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicates any activity or action which may constitute a risk to resident safety.
  12. 12. Acts as a member of the inter-disciplinary team within the Home.
  13. 13. Effectively utilizes all electronic systems provided.
  14. 14. Perform other duties as assigned, including redeployment in emergency situations .
  15. 15. Comply with all relevant legislations/regulations, policies and procedures.
  16. 16. Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, and their regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies, procedures and legislation.
  17. 17. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION
  • Completion of grade 11 or equivalent.
  • Ability to successfully complete a reading and comprehension assessment.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping / laundry equipment and processes.
  • Basic ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with residents and staff.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing, as per Public Health requirements.
EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of three (3) months commercial experience in a similar or related position.
EFFORT
  • Constant standing and walking during work periods, turning, stooping, bending and lifting.
  • Moving carts and performing other related tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This position is located in a long term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.
  • Exposed to conditions of extreme temperatures, chemicals, bodily fluids, germs, etc.

Work schedule to be determined; shifts include days, evenings, nights and weekends.
