Job description

Individually we are people, but together we are Aviva. Individually these are just words, but together they are our Values – Care, Commitment, Community, and Confidence.

We are currently looking to hire a Large Loss Examiner to join our National Property Technical Team.

In this role, you will be responsible for the review of claim files and oversight of claims handled by third party adjusters. Unlike the large loss adjusters who are on site and gather information directly, the examiners provide direction and oversight over the execution of the required steps and customer service rendered by a Third Party Adjuster. You will ensure alignment with Aviva's best practices and handling procedures. You will manage the IA in the investigation, quantification, analysis, adjustment, and settlement of property claims. With a focus on quality and customer service, you will need to work with appropriate specialists and premier vendors. The work will be conducted in an efficient manner to control the indemnity spend and expenses without compromising the delivery of outstanding customer service.

Aviva recognizes the importance of being flexible and the benefits of being together, this role will be hybrid – the best of both worlds.

Come join our team!

What you'll do:
  1. Resource field work to be completed by IA by setting clear expectations and timelines and managing the file through to completion.
  2. Arrange market calls or work with various insurers on subscription claims.
  3. Prepare and be able to present a complete file strategy, coverage analysis, disposition and business case.
  4. Investigate claims by reviewing the IA reports and specialists in order to acquire facts and information to analyze the loss.
  5. Review and compile facts, policies, technical reports, analyze estimates, value of claim, and settle claims.
  6. Communicate claim adjustments via written reports to all parties. This will be based on the policy wording and circumstances surrounding the loss to resolve the claim.
  7. Provide outstanding service to our customers.
  8. Responsible for data accuracy and issuing payments to vendors, insureds, and specialists.
  9. Ensure all correspondence is completed in a timely and effective manner including the creation of Critical Path Letters, Proof of Losses, and Reservation of Rights letters.
  10. Responsible for recognizing questionable claims, subrogation, and risk opportunities.
What you'll bring:
  1. Detailed knowledge of the property insurance industry.
  2. At least 5+ years of commercial and residential property experience.
  3. Strong construction knowledge.
  4. Strong solid understanding of property insurance case law.
  5. Detailed knowledge of a variety of property coverage wordings.
  6. Some basic accounting skills.
  7. Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.
  8. Licensing in NB, PEI & NFLD (asset).
What you'll get:

The salary band for this position ranges from $79,600 to $147,700. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.

Compelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.

Competitive vacation package with the option to purchase 5 extra days off per year.

Employee driven programs focused on gender, LGBTQ+, origins, diversity and inclusion.

Corporate wellness programs to support our employees’ physical and mental health.
