GFL Environmental in Ottawa is seeking an AZ Operator to drive and operate a variety of industrial trucks, including combination units, power vacuum units, hydro excavation units, box trucks, roll-off bin units, high‑pressure water blasters, and tractor trailers. The role is temporary and involves loading/unloading, inspections, and documentation.

You will perform trip inspections, ensure safety and compliance with applicable laws, and maintain logs.

• Perform trip inspections on equipment operated and load for safety and roadworthiness.
• Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, drivers' hours of service, and health and safety.
• Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook and bills of lading.

Responsibilities

• Drive & operate a variety of industrial trucks/units listed, including combination units, power vacuum units, hydro excavation units, box trucks, roll-off bin units, high‑pressure water blasters, and tractor trailers.
• Maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions and verify correct vehicle position and equipment.
• Check vehicles before driving for mechanical and safety readiness; report defects or incidents.
• Deliver to customers with proper paperwork and provide feedback on problems to supervision.
• Ability to work irregular hours, including Monday-Friday and weekend rotations; AZ/DZ license with clean abstract; tanker experience is an asset.

GFL Environmental is looking for an AZ Operator for our Stevenage site in Ottawa! The successful candidates will drive & operate a variety of our industrial trucks/units, such as:

• Combination units.
• Power vacuum units.
• Hydro excavation units.
• Box trucks.
• Roll-off bin units.
• High-pressure water blasters.
• Tractor trailers (AZ/DZ drivers).

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and regulations.
• Perform trip inspections on equipment operated and load, ensuring safety and roadworthiness.
• Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration and weights and dimensions.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
• Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles. Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
• Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook, bills of lading, manifests etc. by manual or electronic means.
• Loading and unloading of trucks.
• Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure.
• Deliver to product and proper paperwork to our customers in a courteous and timely manner.
• Provide feedback to supervision regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems.
• Ability to drive a manual transmission but both auto/manual transmissions are available Monday-Friday (for a day shift) and on-call every 4th weekend.
• AZ or DZ driver's license with a clean Driver's and CVOR abstract.
• Experience hauling tankers.
• Experience using a roll-off bin truck is an asset.
• Ability to work an irregular work schedule (extended hours and variable shifts).
• Ability to work Monday- Friday (November - April) & Tuesday- Saturday (April- October).
• Ability to work in a confined space environment and/or at heights.
• Mechanical knowledge.
