Overview

The Landscape and Snow Removal Technician is responsible for completing grounds maintenance service contracts. The position holder will operate a variety of tools and equipment to carry out specified job tasks.

Position type: full‑time with seasonal fluctuations – busier during spring/fall, less in the middle of summer and winter. Summer is a 4‑day week (Monday‑Thursday) with occasional Fridays and Saturdays. Winter is on‑call – we work when Mother Nature says we do!

Responsibilities
  • Aid in the loading/unloading of trucks and trailers in the AM and PM
  • Cut grass, trim edges, clean up refuse, blow trimmings, fertilize and water turf areas and perform other lawn‑care duties as directed by crew lead, field supervisor and regional manager
  • Move and install soil, mulch and plant material to assist with the construction of landscape gardens and related areas
  • Perform weeding and other general garden duties
  • Spray and dust areas to control insects and/or weeds
  • Snow removal in winter
  • Operate power equipment including lawn tractors, lawn mowers, line trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, pruning saws, sod cutters, chainsaws, and snow blowers
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Assist crew leads/field supervisors in other work‑related duties including construction projects, shop and yard maintenance, vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times
  • Comply with all company policies and regulations
  • Work in accordance with local health and safety laws and regulations
  • Communicate with customers in a polite and courteous manner
Requirements
  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year experience in the landscape/construction industry preferred
  • Valid, clean Class 5 licence eligible for higher end of pay scale; without a licence up to $22.50
  • Capable of operating required equipment and tools safely and responsibly
  • Effective communication skills – able to carry out verbal instructions, read labels and signs, complete simple reports, report progress to supervisors
  • Time‑management skills
  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required for various landscape/construction practices
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods and lift over 50 lbs repeatedly during a shift
  • Preference for candidates with a valid driver’s licence and safe driving record
Work Conditions
  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small‑engine equipment, and materials
  • Ability to push, pull and lift a minimum of 50 lbs repeatedly during an entire shift
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Requires good manual dexterity
  • Excellent stamina required
  • Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles regularly
  • Work outdoors in various conditions including heat, humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold
