Job summary

J.D. Barnes Limited is seeking a Survey Assistant to support the Party Chief on fieldwork in Thunder Bay and surrounding areas. This entry-level role involves assisting with data collection, measurements and calculations, and ensuring a safe, orderly site environment.

The successful candidate will operate survey gear, learn procedures, and work on-site in varying weather. Training is provided; health and dental insurance and RRSP matching are offered.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills are required.
• Strong mathematical abilities are preferred.
• Experience with surveying equipment is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate survey equipment including levels, Total Stations, Data collectors, GPS etc.
• Assist the Land Survey Party Chief with data preparation, measurements and calculations
• Communicate problems to the Land Survey Party Chief
• Inspect and maintain field equipment
• Adhere to Health and Safety policies.

Job description

As a Survey Assistant you will be responsible for assisting the Party Chief in successfully completing the field work on assigned jobs in accordance with the industry regulations and J.D. Barnes Limited's procedures and technical standards. This current vacancy is a full time,permanent role. You will be required to work on-site in Thunder Bayand the surrounding area.

J.D. Barnes Limited is a leading geomatics firm specializing in Surveying, Planning, Mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for the public and private sectors. The company was established in 1960 and has become one of Canada's largest firms of its kind with over 500 professional and technical staff, working across 25 divisions throughout Ontario and Quebec.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate survey equipment including levels, Total Stations, Data collectors, GPS etc.
• Assist the Land Survey Party Chief with data preparation, measurements and calculations
• Communicate problems, errors, questions and concerns to the Land Survey Party Chief
• Inspect and maintain field equipment
• Ensure a clean and orderly work environment
• Adhere to all Health and Safety Policies and Regulations
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

• Legally eligible to work in Canada
• Excellent communication skills
• Good mathematical abilities
• Post secondary education in related field (surveying or engineering technology) isan asset, but not required
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments
• Ability to carrying equipment (Total Station, Level, Bars and Stakes) from site to site.
• This is an entry level role and training will be provided.
• Experience with land surveying and survey equipment is an asset
• Familiarityworking in windows based applications is an asset

Key Job Details

• Compensation range: $41,600 - $57,200
• 40 hours per week
