Job summary

City of Kingston is seeking seasonal workers to operate sidewalk plows, shovel entrances, and perform winter maintenance to keep roads and public spaces safe. Work includes driving a 1-ton plow vehicle, clearing catch basins, patching potholes, and assisting with parks maintenance during peak winter periods.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, a valid G license (DZ preferred), and be able to work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience driving and/or operating heavy construction equipment.
• Knowledge and training in Traffic Control and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Valid G Ontario driver's licence; DZ licence is an asset.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Willing to work any and/or all shifts.
• Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check.
• Immunization requirements: Tetanus and Hepatitis B may be required.

Responsibilities

• Trim brush as needed.

LOCATION: 701 Division Street, Kingston, ON

We keep Kingston’s infrastructure and public spaces safe, clean, and functional through a wide range of operations. Our team maintains roads, sidewalks, parks, sports fields, gardens and trees; manages seasonal operations such as snow removal; and responds to drainage and storm issues, ensuring the city remains vibrant and well-maintained year-round.

What you'll do...

• Required to hand shovel (ex. Stairs, walkways, building entrances)


• Required to trim brush


• Operate light vehicle plow (1 ton) to clear turning lanes, parking lots, laneways and dead ends


• Responsible to clear catch basins


• Responsible to patch and repair pot holes


• Participate in seasonal parks maintenance


• Haul snow and/or sand


• Build and take down outdoor skating rinks, assist with making ice and flooding as required


• Responsible for garbage collection, litter picking and illegal dumping clean-up


• Perform labour related tasks, such as flower bed preparation (i.e. roto-tilling, shoveling, edging), watering flower beds, vegetation removal/ disposal, as well as similar labour and material handling tasks


• Other duties as assigned

**This position receives 4% in lieu of vacation + 13% in lieu of all benefits in addition to hourly rate of pay**

• High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent


• 1 year of experience driving and/or operating heavy construction equipment, and/or working as a labourer on and around heavy equipment on construction sites


• Must have knowledge and training in Traffic Control and Occupational Health and Safety Act


• Must possess a valid G Ontario drivers licence with a satisfactory driver's abstract; DZ licence is an asset

• Able to perform the essential duties of the job


• Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions and perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner
