ABC Recycling Ltd. in Burnaby, BC, is hiring two General Labourers to process, move, sort, cut, and package non-ferrous scrap and vehicles for transport. You will help keep the yard clean, ensure safety standards, and support operations with daily tasks in an outdoor environment.

The role involves loading and unloading with a forklift, weighing metals, and assisting in inventory control. Monday–Friday shifts with day or afternoon options are available.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking two General Labourers who will be responsible for processing, moving, sorting, cutting, and packaging pieces of non-ferrous scrap metal and vehicles for transport out of our Burnaby, B.C. yard. This person will also be responsible for ensuring the yard is clean and always well maintained, ensuring safety standards are met.

Responsibilities

• Receives metals from customer and assist in unloading if required.
• Assesses and weigh various types and grades of ferrous metals.
• Maximizes mix loads of scrap from customers by sorting, high-grading and segregating accordingly.
• Ensures property, facilities, and equipment remain in good order.
• Communicates with customers and ensure they receive professional service.
• Cuts larger too thick pieces of metal into smaller marketable pieces.
• Loads and unloads trailers using a forklift.
• Drains fluids from vehicles and prepares them for baling.
• Dismantles scrap materials and remove high value metals from them.
• Ensures property, facilities, and equipment remain in good order.
• Maintains inventory controls by collecting stock location orders, printing requests, recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed through a computer.
• May also assist in counting of physical inventory.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience with sorting and allocating ferrous metals, preferably in a busy, high volume scrap yard is considered an asset.
• Thorough knowledge of ferrous types and grades and able to assess and allocate most scrap by visual inspection.
• Ability to use a forklift or skid steer is an asset.
• Knowledgeable about general safety practices.
• Willingness to work in an outdoor environment (rain or shine).
• Able to communicate professionally.

Schedule

• Monday to Friday
• Day Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm
• Afternoon Shift: 2:30pm - 10:00pm

Important

We frequently operate on and service federally regulated customers that require regular and random drug and alcohol screening (including suppliers and contractors). As such, you will also be subject to an initial and then ongoing random drug and alcohol screening as a condition of your employment.
