If you are a highly motivated team player with strong administrative support skills and a keen interest in labour relations, consider joining the Labour Relations team!

Working in a dynamic environment with experienced labour relations practitioners, the Labour Relations Assistant (LRA) will provide technical and administrative support to a team of Labour Relations Consultants. The Labour Relations Section values open communication, collaboration, teamwork, and service excellence. What will you do?

  1. Receive, review, organize, catalog, refer, and track all grievances, Alberta Labour Relations Board and disciplinary correspondence.
  2. Receive, review, organize, research, refer, and track incoming inquiries and requests to completion, including FOIP requests, investigations, requests for information, briefings, and other general inquiries to Labour Relations.
  3. Utilize and manage investigation tracking tools (e.g., harassment and discrimination, Hotline).
  4. Provide clerical support to the Director of Disputes and Advisory Services and team.
  5. Set up meetings, which may include contacting Union representatives and City employees for scheduling, arranging for location and materials (e.g., flipcharts, coffee), and sending out notifications to individuals.
  6. Attend a variety of meetings to record notes, track, and ensure resolution of sensitive labour relations action items.
  7. Support the onboarding process for new hires to Labour Relations by tracking and monitoring to ensure orientation processes are completed and new employees have access to the tools required to complete their work.
  8. Provide any other administrative support functions as required.

Qualifications:

  • Combination of experience and education related to Human Resources, Labour Relations, or Business Administration.

Skills required for success:

  • Computer proficiency and experience using the Google suite of applications (e.g., GMail, Calendar, Drive, Slides) and Human Resources Information Systems. Microsoft Office suite experience will also be considered.
  • Strong information and records management skills.
  • Experience working with highly confidential documents and information.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable judgment and tact when responding to sensitive requests.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Conditions of employment and work environment:

  • Up to: 1 permanent, full-time position.
  • Hours of work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
  • Salary Range: $25.172 - $31.257 (Hourly); $44,346.77 - $55,067.02 (Annually).
  • This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off).
  • Potential for a hybrid work arrangement (work from both home and office).
  • Management and Out-of-Scope positions at the City of Edmonton are under review for possible inclusion in the Civic Service Union 52 bargaining unit. If impacted, the incumbent will be notified.
