Job summary

Erosion Control Central (ECC) in Calgary, Alberta is seeking a dedicated Erosion Control Laborer to join our field crew. The role involves installing, maintaining, and inspecting erosion and sediment control measures across multiple job sites, with emphasis on safety and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

  • Experience in construction, landscaping, or erosion control is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Commitment to safety practices and following instructions from supervisors.
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain erosion control measures such as silt fences and erosion blankets.
  • Prepare job sites by clearing debris and ensuring proper material placement.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials and equipment safely.
  • Perform site clean-up and leave sites in safe condition after projects.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and wear PPE at all times.
  • Collaborate with crew members and supervisors to meet project specs.
  • Operate basic construction tools and equipment following safety guidelines.
  • Keep accurate daily logs and compliance records.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current on practices and regulations.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Erosion Control Laborer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and inspection of erosion and sediment control measures on various job sites. This role offers opportunities for professional development and career progression within ECC, requiring physical labor, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation and Maintenance: Implement and maintain erosion control measures such as silt fences, erosion control blankets, wattles, and sediment basins to prevent soil erosion and sediment runoff.
  • Site Preparation: Prepare job sites by clearing debris, grading surfaces, and ensuring proper placement of erosion control materials.
  • Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport materials and equipment to and from job sites safely and efficiently.
  • Site Clean-Up: Perform site clean-up tasks, including removing leftover materials and ensuring the site is left in a clean and safe condition after project completion.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with fellow crew members and supervisors to complete projects on time and to specifications.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate basic construction equipment and tools as required, following all safety guidelines.
  • Documentation: Ensure accurate records of work performed, including daily logs and compliance reports.
  • Training: Participate in ongoing training sessions to stay updated on best practices and regulatory changes.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or erosion control is preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, standing, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong commitment to safety practices and procedures.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisors.
  • Driver's License: Valid Alberta driver's license with a clean driving record is an asset.
  • Certifications: Possession of safety training certifications (e.g., OSHA 10) is an asset.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using specific tools or software relevant to erosion control projects is an asset.
