Job summary

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist II to coordinate daily lab operations and uphold quality controls. You will support Chemistry, Hematology, and Coagulation while guiding MLT staff and implementing LIS-related tasks.

Based in Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, the role requires a 5+ year lab background, accreditation with CMLTA, and proactive quality assurance practices in a rural setting.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
  • Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience in Chemistry, Hematology and Coagulation in the last 5 years.
  • Experience in quality control review, method validation, statistics, reagent management and LIS user acceptance testing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations and quality control of the laboratory.
  • Provide technical advice and problem solving across chemistry, hematology, and coagulation.
  • Supervise and train MLTs, schedule, QC, and instrument maintenance as required.

Job description

Help clinicians and patients diagnose and manage disease inAlberta PrecisionLaboratories’ (APL’s)busyrural communities by joining our South Zone team. Here you will be responsible forusing advanced technical skills and judgement toassist South Zone Rural Labsite supervisors with development and implementation of diagnostic processes, procedures in conjunction with Pathologists and laboratory managers.You’reananalytical, organizedlab technologist whoworkswell under pressure and will support lab administration duties to include testing, staffing, training and feedback, quality control programs, scheduling,costingand ordering supplies as needed.This position is responsible for identifying results, issues, or situations that require escalation to the Clinical Supervisor, Manager, Director, Clinical Chemists, or Pathologists. The role will primarily support laboratory processes within Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Specimen Pre- and Post-Analytics, while also contributing to other laboratory areas as required.As an excellent problem-solver, you can adapt, prioritize, and manage your timewhile ensuring lab and organizational policy compliance, including quality control and quality assurance procedures. Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory.You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of5 years of laboratory experience in Chemistry, Hematology andCoagulation within the last 5 years.Experience in quality control review, new equipment workup, method validation, statistical analysis, reagent management,proficiencytesting & LIS user acceptance testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three years of supervisory experience, in the last five years.Training in quality improvement, conflict resolution, and leadership is an asset.Preference will be given to candidates with advanced technical troubleshooting skills as well as experience in incident investigation, corrective action implementation, safety, and accreditation standards. Previous rural experience is an asset.
