Job summary

Alberta Health Services (AHS) seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist I for the Edmonton Zone Anatomic Pathology team. The position involves routine and specialized procedures across Sturgeon Community Hospital, UAH, CCI and Royal Alexandra Hospital, including grossing, embedding, and intraoperative support.

Responsibilities span specimen processing, testing, reporting, QC, and potential on-call duties. Strong leaders with teamwork and communication skills are desired.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
  • Recent Anatomic Pathology experience and grossing experience.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems applications such as EPIC; strong time management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples.
  • Carry out grossing, embedding, microtomy and specimen preparation as required across sites.
  • Maintain quality control and assist with intraoperative consults when needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and support urgent procedures after hours.

Job description

Join the Edmonton Zone Anatomic Pathology team! With the primary site at the Sturgeon Hospital and additional sites at University of Alberta Hospital, Cross Cancer Institute and the Royal Alex Hospital, this position is an excellent opportunity for anyone who would like to perform a full range of technical processes associated with Anatomical Pathology.When at the Sturgeon, CCI and Royal Alex, the successful candidate will perform a variety of routine and specialized Anatomical Pathology procedures. Duties include grossing, specimen prep, frozen sections and assisting with intraoperative consults, performing routine equipment maintenance, teaching students, and troubleshooting of various laboratory instruments,At the UAH, the candidate role would also include embedding and microtomy, routine and specialized staining procedures, quality control activities and may also be required to be on call to support urgent procedures after routine operational hours on a rotational basis. Other duties that may be assigned as appropriate.Anatomic Pathology is a hands-on department that is a great place to learn about patient care and see some of the most interesting cases that come to lab. We have a diverse team - with MLAs, MLTs, PAs, pathologists, residents, and many learners on site. Required Qualifications:
