Job Title: Laboratory Technician – XRF

Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager

Department: Metals and Minerals

Location: Vancouver. B.C.

Full-Time Contract

June 2025 - November 2025

Basic Purpose:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, laboratory Operations and under the supervision of the XRF technical supervisor, the XRF Technician position performs routine and non-routine duties in the XRF Lab including preparing XRF samples for analysis. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accurately conduct routine and non-routine analyses of samples using the appropriate method and in accordance with the established schedule such as high temperature Lithium tetraborate fusion and LOI.

• Weigh XRF samples according to established procedures.

• Perform sample preparation consisting of high temperature Lithium tetraborate fusion.

• Provide technical support to senior technicians and may assist in training new employees.

• Report all breakdowns or other equipment problems to the supervisor or manager.

• Perform routine washing and other cleanup duties as required.

• Operate required instruments such as XRF and its associated computers.

• Suggest modifications to routine analytical procedures to improve accuracy.

• Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the XRF technician.

• Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE)

• Other duties or tasks assigned from time to time

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent English, verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal, organizing and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to details and workplace/work-related safety
  • Precision in handling laboratory tools is required, as well as accuracy when measuring and pouring chemicals.
  • Ability to properly use and wear heat-resistant personal protective equipment (PPE), such as Heat-resistant gloves or specialized headgear.
  • Able to work independently to complete assigned tasks and to follow written procedures
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members
  • College or technical diploma with relevant experience in similar laboratory environment
  • • Familiarity with WHMIS

Physical and Environmental Conditions

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy containers usually up to 40 lbs., multiple times throughout a shift.
  • Requires standing for extended periods, typically for most of the shift, with occasional short breaks.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and crouching to manage sample preparation, arrange materials, and load/unload fusion vessels.
  • The technician is exposed to heat and chemicals requiring safe handling procedures and careful attention to lab protocols.
