Job summary

SGS is seeking a laboratory technician in Ontario to perform testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores and minerals. The role includes sample handling, data compilation, and report preparation in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications include a science-related diploma and 1–3 years of lab experience. Proficiency with MS Office and strong attention to detail are required for accurate results and compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education (three-year diploma) in a Science related program is required.
  • 1–3 years of laboratory experience.
  • Able to read and follow work instructions safely and accurately.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Strong time management and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and materials.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and systems.
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples; prepare reports.
  • Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis; troubleshoot as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Job Description

This position will conduct a wide variety of testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and materials.

  • Use an applied approach in performing moderate technological functions within laboratory or pilot plant operations.
  • Design, develop, test, install and operates equipment and systems.
  • Conduct applied research and experimental testing.
  • Compile and analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples.
  • Sort, crush, pulverize, split, and screen samples.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment or components.
  • Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis.
  • Maintain a clean working environment.

Qualifications
  • Education: A post-secondary education (three-year diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering Technology, etc.) is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 – 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting is required.
  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Incumbents must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven effective time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, in both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and to balance conflicting demands of high volume versus quality of results.

Additional Information

Compensation:$20.50 to $22.50 per hour / 40 hours per week.
