Job summary

North York General Hospital is seeking a part-time Laboratory Technician in General Specimen Procurement/Laboratory Medicine. The role involves phlebotomy, ECG, specimen processing, and patient reception at the General Site, with 4- and 8-hour shifts across days, evenings, and nights, including weekends.

The successful candidate will hold an OS Diploma or equivalent and CSMLS certification, with hospital experience preferred and bilingualism in French/English considered an asset.

Qualifications

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
• OSMS/CSMLS Certification or equivalent
• Hospital experience preferred
• Bilingualism in French/ English an asset

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory procedures in accordance with department and divisional policies, including phlebotomy, ECG, specimen processing and patient reception.
• Handle and package laboratory specimens safely and in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Demonstrate ability to write legibly and accurately record lab information and communicate in written and oral English.
• Provide patient- and family-centered care in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner.
• Work within the Hospital's academic mandate by contributing to teaching, learning, and research/innovation initiatives.

You are knowledgeable in the safe handling and packaging of laboratory specimens, competent in the performance of ECG and blood collection, and have the knowledge and ability to perform assigned tasks, write legibly and accurately record lab information. You demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and are able to communicate in written and oral English. You will provide excellent patient and family-driven care in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. This position supports the Hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation.
