SGS is seeking a Laboratory Technician for a 6 month contract with potential extension, based at the Fort McMurray area. The role requires 7 on, 7 off 12-hour shifts, with bussing provided from Fort McMurray, AB.

You will perform routine testing, calibrate equipment and maintain lab operations with strict safety and quality standards. The position demands a science background and basic laboratory experience, along with proficiency in MS Office and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Background in science and chemistry is desirable.
  • Experience in analytical laboratory is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook.
  • Physically capable of lifting 20 kg regularly.
  • Able to read, understand and follow work instructions accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and monitor testing and inspection activities with high precision.
  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations and standard preparations.
  • Assist with instrument commissioning and maintenance; troubleshoot issues.
  • Ensure lab safety, cleanliness and adherence to protocols.
  • Prepare and manage lab supplies, samples and client bottles.
  • Archive, return, or dispose of client samples as required.
  • Input data and compile results; report discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Follow Quality, Health & Safety policies and company conduct rules.

Job Description

SGS is looking for a Laboratory Technician for a 6 month contract with a possibility of extension for long term employment.

Site Position – Bussing provided from Fort McMurray, AB and local area.

Schedule: 7 on x 7 off (12 hour shifts with day and night shift - from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM).

Perform and monitor testing and inspection activities of the SGS Industrial laboratory. The job holder plays a critical role in carrying out core business activities while working at Company’s operations and/ or Client’s project sites, with high degree of precision and strict compliance to Health & Safety and Company’s Code of integrity and professionalism.

  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
  • Preparation of standards/reagents as required.
  • Assist with in-house training, state-of-art instrument commissioning, ensuring proper operation and maintenance of instruments, accessories, methods, data etc., able to troubleshoot.
  • Good housekeeping and equipment maintenance skills maintaining lab integrity.
  • Maintains all lab protocol, follows procedures with accuracy of data.
  • Maintenance of inventory of general lab supplies.
  • Prepare bottle orders for clients.
  • Archive, return or dispose of client samples as per work sheet instructions.
  • Conducts routine testing.
  • Carries out routine equipment maintenance under the direction of his/her supervisor.
  • Compiles data, analyzes and input results
  • Maintains a clean working environment.
  • Follow all Quality system protocols and report any discrepancies to the Group Lead.
  • Follow all company HSE policies.
  • May be assigned to special projects and or site work for indeterminate length of time.
  • May be assigned special or ad hoc projects.
Qualifications

Profile:

  • Diploma or certificate in a science related field
  • One year of related experience or completion of University or College in a related field

Required Skills:

  • Background in science and chemistry is desirable.
  • Experience in analytical laboratory is a strong asset.
  • Physically fit to lift 20 kg pails on a daily basis
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies
