Job summary

SGS in Burnaby is seeking a laboratory technician to support testing activities during the afternoon shift (3pm–11:30pm) and weekends. You will perform analyses, document results, inventory supplies, and help maintain equipment and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has a BSc or Diploma in a science field and 1–3 years of relevant laboratory experience. Starting wage is competitive with benefits for staff health, RRSP eligibility, and paid time off.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory techniques per SOPs and SOP manuals.
  • Document data by maintaining daily logs and equipment records.
  • Record and interpret results; present findings to supervisors.
  • Inventory and maintain laboratory supplies.
  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment; perform preventive maintenance.
  • Carry out routine instrument checks and document findings.
  • Assist in preparing SOPs, validation protocols and reports.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized lab environment.
  • Assist supervisor with daily H&S checks and incident reporting.

Job Description

Please note: This position will require the successful candidate to be available for afternoon shift (3pm to 11:30pm) and weekends.

  • Performs and executes laboratory techniques as per methods independently, following the company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to carry out analyses.
  • Documents information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
  • Recording and periodically interpreting results to present to senior colleagues, results are evaluated in a timely manner.
  • Keeps laboratory supplies readily available by inventorying stock.
  • Assists in maintaining and operates equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns and performing preventive maintenance. Record findings in logbook.
  • Carry out routine instrument checks for compliance and accurate testing results. Record findings in logbooks.
  • Assists with the preparation of method SOP's, validation protocol and reporting.
  • Demonstrates safe work habits and enforces a clean and organized working environment.
  • Assists the Department Supervisor in monitoring and checking for the completion of all daily H&S checks, monthly H&S meetings, emergency protocol and any incident/accident reports
Qualifications
  • Education: BSc. or Diploma in a Science related program or equivalent experience or training
  • Experience: Minimum 1 - 3 years of relevant laboratory work experience required

Salary: starting at $20.50 per hour.
