Job summary

SGS is seeking a lab technician to perform routine testing and analysis following documented instructions under supervision. The role includes sample preparation, logging into LIMS, and ensuring samples are catalogued and retrievable.

Experience in a laboratory environment is an asset; strong attention to detail and effective communication are essential. Rotation across day/evening shifts is possible, with health, dental and PTO benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • Experience in a Laboratory environment is an asset.
  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment.
  • Must be comfortable with numerals to monitor data on a computer screen.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions safely and timely.
  • Able to work under pressure during high workloads and balance quality with speed.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine testing and analysis following written work instructions under supervision.
  • Log samples into LIMS accurately and quickly; ensure proper cataloguing and storage.
  • Assist laboratory personnel in locating, retrieving, and disposing of samples as needed.
  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations and prepare standards and reagents.
  • Interpret and evaluate results; monitor laboratory supplies and equipment maintenance.

Job Description

This position will carry out various routine testing and analysis, following written work instructions under the direction of the Supervisor of a specific department.

  • Duties may include sample identification, sample preparation, sample dilutions,
  • Ensure samples are logged into LIMS accurately and in a quick manner.
  • Working knowledge of LIMS
  • Ensure samples are catalogued and stored in an efficient and easily retrievable manner.
  • Assists laboratory personnel in locating and retrieving of samples and also responsible for sample disposal or returning samples to clients.
  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
  • Preparation of standards and reagents.
  • Interpreting and evaluating results.
  • Monitor Equipment maintenance & laboratory supplies.
  • Follow all Quality system protocols, report discrepancies to the Supervisor.

  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work a rotating schedule - days, afternoons & evenings.
Additional Information

Compensation: $20.50 to $21.50 per hour / 40 hours per week.
