Responsibilities

1. Set up, adjust, and operate laboratory equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, agitators, scales, Activigraphs, nitrogen analyzers, spectrophotometers, and other lab tools.
2. Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
3. Test materials used as ingredients in yeast products for qualities like purity, stability, viscosity, density, absorption, Brix, and melting or flash points.
4. Test solutions for chemical concentration, specific gravity, pH, Brix, or other characteristics.
5. Test materials for elements or substances such as hydrocarbons, manganese, sulfur, ash, dust, or impurities.
6. Verify that samples of manufactured yeast products meet specifications.
7. Conduct HACCP verification activities.
8. Record test results on standardized forms and prepare reports, graphs, and charts.
9. Clean, sterilize, and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments.
10. Comply with HR policies, procedures, and relevant employment laws.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A combination of the following skills and knowledge is preferred:

• Associate's degree (A.A.) in Chemistry or Biology from a two-year college or technical school.
• Two years of experience and/or training.
• Ability to operate basic laboratory equipment and tools.
• Familiarity with basic scientific terminology and computer operations.
• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemistry or Biology is also acceptable.
• Experience in food processing, pharmaceuticals, and/or fermentation is a plus.

Additional Factors

• Ability to work rotating shifts when necessary.
• Occasional overtime may be required.

Working Conditions

Employees will regularly stand, walk, handle objects, and communicate verbally. They will frequently reach, smell, and occasionally sit, climb, balance, or stoop. Lifting up to 25 pounds is required. The role involves exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and occasional mechanical parts.
