Job summary

Douglas College in New Westminster, BC, is seeking a Laboratory Facilitator, Biology, for a temporary part-time role (20 hours/week) beginning August 31, 2026, through April 30, 2027. You will guide students through proper lab procedures, prepare assignments, and create an encouraging learning environment to support biology instruction.

The position is located at the New Westminster campus, with occasional work at the Coquitlam campus.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting biology lab instruction with emphasis on safety.
  • Familiarity with standard lab equipment and routine maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Guide students through proper biology lab procedures and demonstrations.
  • Prepare engaging assignments and learning materials.
  • Maintain a safe, organized lab environment and equipment.
  • Support instructors and manage class logistics as needed.

Job description

$32.04 per hour (with wage increments to a max of $36.06 per hour). Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

  • Excellent working knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus together with good working knowledge of safety measures related to the operation of the Biology laboratory, including GHS ( WHMIS )
  • Good working knowledge of English (written and verbal).
  • A demonstrated ability to:
    • communicate courteously and effectively in person, in writing and over the telephone with students, faculty, administrators, staff, and the public.
    • work independently with minimum direct supervision.
    • establish priorities and achieve deadlines.
    • effectively demonstrate proper laboratory techniques.
    • maintain current knowledge in the field of biology.
  • This temporary part-time (20 hours per week) 8 month position is available starting August 31, 2026 to April 30, 2027.
  • Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday 9:00am - 4:30pm. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department’s need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
  • The position is located at the New Westminster campus; however, successful candidate must be available for occasional work at the Coquitlam campus.
