Job summary

Douglas College is seeking a veterinary technologist to join the Coquitlam campus. You will guide students through lab procedures, prepare assignments, and foster a safe, compassionate learning environment in veterinary facilities.

Responsibilities include anesthesia, dentistry, nursing, radiography and lab work, with occasional shifts and on-site duties at multiple campuses. Strong English communication and group instruction experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of operation and maintenance of a veterinary facility, including equipment and safety procedures.
  • Experience speaking to groups and preparing written lab assignments; SOPs are an asset.
  • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to handle multiple animal species compassionately and perform veterinary technologist duties.
  • Capability to adapt to changing situations with calm demeanor and to work with students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Guide students through proper lab procedures and engaging assignments.
  • Prepare engaging assignments and provide a supportive learning environment.
  • Perform veterinary technologist duties including anesthesia, dentistry, nursing, radiography and lab procedures.

Job description

Salary Range $32.04 per hour (with wage increments to a max of $36.06 per hour). Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

What It Takes
  • Excellent working knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of a veterinary facility, including laboratory, surgical, radiology and anesthetic equipment and apparatus together with a good working knowledge of safety measures related to the operation of a veterinary facility including WHMIS and GHS
  • Demonstrated experience speaking to groups and preparing written materials for lab assignments. Experience creating Standard Operating Procedures is an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal).
  • A demonstrated ability to:
  • handle different animal species compassionately and with the use of accepted professional best practices.
  • perform all duties of a veterinary technologist, including, but not limited to, anesthesia, dentistry, nursing, radiography and laboratory procedures.
  • manage multiple ongoing patient and student needs (i.e. multi-task).
  • adapt to changing situations with a calm demeanour.
  • communicate courteously and effectively in person, in writing, and over the telephone with students, faculty, administrators, staff, and the public.
Additional Information
  • This temporary part-time (21 hours per week) position is available starting September 8, 2026 to May 31, 2027.
  • Regular hours of work are Monday-Friday, 7am - 5pm. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department’s need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
  • The position is located at the Coquitlam campus; however, successful candidate must be available for occasional work at the New Westminster campus and off-site locations.
