Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics (LMPMG) is committed to enhancing patient care through the provision of consistently high quality education, support and on-going follow-up for patients using Subcutaneous Immune Globulin (SCIG) and C1 Esterase Inhibitor (C1-INH) blood products at home, for patients coming to the hospital for chemistry dynamic laboratory tests, and for patients donating bone to Tissue Bank.
Reporting to the Regional Manager; performs initial SCIG/C1-INH education and provides ongoing support for homecare patients; performs chemistry dynamic laboratory tests; reviews tissue donor enrollment/consent forms and completes telephone interviews to determine if volunteers are eligible to donate tissue, consistent with Health Canada Standards.
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification. Two years recent, related experience in immunodeficiency and Hereditary Angioedema, IVIG/SCIG administration and C1 Esterase Inhibitor administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
