Job summary

Boundary Hospital in Grand Forks, BC is seeking a Casual Laboratory Clerk to join our dedicated laboratory team. This role supports patient care by handling clerical tasks, patient registration, LIS data entry and routine specimen processing.

Shifts are days, Monday to Friday, 07:15 to 15:15, with 0–37.5 hours per week and opportunities for on-call coverage. The position offers competitive wages, shift premiums, and access to employee training and wellbeing programs.

Qualifications

• Typing test 5 minutes with 45+ NWPM completed within past 48 months
• Medical Terminology certificate required
• Two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Completion of Grade 12 plus related qualifications

Responsibilities

• Schedule appointments, data entry, filing, telephoning, faxing and invoicing
• Register patients and enter data into LIS according to procedures
• Receive, process and prepare patient samples (centrifuge)
• Prioritize workflow and package samples for send-out according to regulations
• Mail and distribute patient reports
• Maintain laboratory inventory and records
• Perform related duties as required

What will you work on?

This position performs a variety of clerical and receptionist duties such as:

• Scheduling appointments, performing computer entry, filing, telephoning, faxing, and invoicing;
• Receives and registers patients by obtaining necessary information for patient data and test entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) according to established procedures;
• Receives, processes, and prepares (centrifuges) patient samples in accordance with established procedures;
• Prioritizes workflow and prepares (packages) samples for send-out in accordance with all transportation regulations and procedures;
• Mails and distributes patient reports as required;
• Distributes, files, retrieves, and disposes of laboratory specimens, slides, and blocks;
• Maintains laboratory inventory and supplies;
• Maintains a variety of records such as standing orders and requisitions, temperature records, cleaning and disinfection logs, inventory logs;
• Performs other related duties as required.

• A 5-minute typing test (45+ NWPM) from a recognized institution, completed within the past 48 months (non-supervised tests not accepted).
• A Medical Terminology Certificate
• Your Resume outlining two year's recent related experience, Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
• A Cover Letter stating your availability to start in a new position and on-call, casual work (i.e. days of the week).

Education, Training & Experience:

• Grade 12, Plus
• Two year's recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Completion of an administered 5 minute typing certificate of 45wpm in the last 48 months from an approved institution (non-supervised tests are not accepted)
• Completion of a Medical Terminology course.
