Job summary

IKO Industries Ltd. is seeking a Lab Technician Co-op for the Winter 2027 term in Brampton, Ontario.

The role supports laboratory operations, assists with improvement and development projects, and performs routine testing under SOPs in a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will contribute to multiple research projects, maintain equipment, document results, and ensure safety and quality standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Must be a senior student in a relevant field (Chemistry/Environmental Science/Engineering Technology).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with the team.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving and analytical abilities in routine tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Support laboratory operations and projects as directed by the manager.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update technical documentation and test records.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and experiments following SOPs.
  • Prepare samples and solutions for analysis per procedures.
  • Record and report test results promptly and accurately.
  • Receive samples, log them, and coordinate shipment after assessments.
  • Follow health and safety protocols and internal standards.

People like you!Job DescriptionThe Lab Technician Co-op Program provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research and development environment, apply their academic knowledge to real-world projects, develop technical and problem-solving skills, and gain valuable experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.The successful candidate will contribute in various research projects during the Winter 2027 Co-op term, preferably for a 12-month duration. The position supports laboratory operations by assisting with laboratory improvement and development projects, performing routine testing, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform tasks and contribute to projects as directed by the manager to support laboratory operations.Prepare, maintain, and update technical documentation, including test records, procedures, reports, and other laboratory-related documents.Perform routine laboratory tests and experiments following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and relevant standards.Prepare samples, and solutions for analysis according to standard procedures.Accurately record and report test results in a timely manner.Receive samples, record them in the database, and ensure timely shipment to the relevant plant after assessmentsFollow all laboratory health and safety protocols and best practices and guidelines.Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.Coordinate work to maintain efficiency and ensure timely completion of laboratory tasks.Coordinate with other technicians to complete tasks according to the planned schedule.Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities.Support technicians and scientists in ongoing projects.QualificationsSenior student in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, or related field.Detail oriented and maintains organizational skills to support team tasks.Demonstrates problem-solving and analytical abilities in routine tasks.Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact effectively and efficiently with the team.Ability to occasionally lift materials between 25 - 50 lbs.Experience in a laboratory environment is an asset.Wage$23.50/hour - $26.50/hourBenefits of Employment: IKO recognizes that its success is due to the strength of its employees.
