Qualifications

  • Experience in a metallurgical laboratory setting is an asset.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Job description

Position Summary

Acuren is looking to hire a Laboratory Technician to work on-site at our Oakville lab. The successful candidate will be involved in operating equipment and conducting chemical, metallurgical and mechanical testing. Testing includes but is not limited to: chemical analysis using an OES spark machine, metallurgical sample preparation and basic examination using optical microscopy, hardness testing, and potentially other mechanical testing such as Charpy impact testing, bend testing, and tensile testing.

Responsibilities
  • Follow ASTM, ASME, SAE, CWB, ISO, NACE and custom specifications for testing
  • Follow company quality standards and procedures
  • Conduct verifications and calibrations on equipment and parts as needed
  • Operate equipment and follow test procedures
  • Follow maintenance and safety checklists for equipment as needed
  • Prepare test reports with necessary customer information, results and conclusions
  • Collaborate with other departments on high volume and large scale projects
Requirements
  • Engineering technology degree or technical diploma
  • Previous experience with optical emission spectroscopy equipment is considered an asset
  • Experience working in a metallurgical laboratory setting is considered an asset
  • Comfortable with and knowledgeable in handling acids/chemicals
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, manages time well
  • Must be able to work efficiently in a fast paced setting
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong verbal communication and with ability to follow written directions
  • Team player with willingness to learn and develop on the job
  • Able to lift up to 23kg (50 lbs)
  • Strong computer skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
