Job summary

LifeLabs LP is hiring a Lab Patient Technician in Canada. The role covers the specimen collection process from greeting patients through to preparation for transportation. The position is part-time float with coverage across Bowmanville, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, Scarborough, and Lindsay, requiring travel between sites and availability Mon-Sat.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong customer/patient service with ability to relate under stress.
• Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients follow test protocols.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as drug screens and paternity tests, with related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of patient demographics, requisition information, and processing data for test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

As aLab Patient Technicianyou will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Part Time (Float) Schedule: Various based on operational needs Additional requirements: This is a Part-Time Float position that provides coverage across multiple locations, including Bowmanville, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, Scarborough, and Lindsay. The successful candidate must have reliable transportation and be able to travel between sites as required. The role requires flexibility, with shifts starting as early as 6:45 a.m. and ending as late as 6:00 p.m. Candidates must be available to work Monday through Saturday to support operational needs, including covering vacations, sick calls, and staffing shortages at various Patient Service Centres. Flexibility to work at different locations on short notice is essential for success in this role Number of positions: 1 Start Date: 1 October 2026.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

What you will bring to the role:

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent are preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations
• Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
