Job summary

Amrize is seeking a Lab Assistant for Asphalt and Aggregates to support the quality control processes and collaborate with the experienced lab team. The role involves inspecting equipment and surfaces, sampling, recording results, and adhering to safety protocols.

Primary responsibilities include performing QC tests on aggregates and asphalt mixes, maintaining systems records, and communicating any issues to the lab technician, while ensuring a safe and compliant lab environment.

Qualifications

• Education: CEGEP/DEC or Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC) in materials quality control, civil engineering, or equivalent.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G-Suite.

Responsibilities

• Visual inspection of reserves and loading surfaces and report issues to the lab technician.
• Follow sampling frequency per Quality Plan for quality monitoring in production and delivery.
• Perform quality control of aggregates (particle size, LA, micro Deval) and asphalt mixes (bitumen extraction, particle size, density) per standards.
• Record results in appropriate systems.
• Notify lab technician of non-conformances.
• Clean the laboratory daily and perform basic equipment maintenance.
• Promote safety culture and adherence to health, safety and environmental policies.

About The Role

In close collaboration with the entire experienced laboratory team, the laboratory assistant supports the department in carrying out the various stages of the quality control process for aggregates and mixes.

What You’ll Accomplish

• Visual inspection of the reserves and loading surfaces. Inform the lab technician of any identified issues (segregation, contamination, lack of equipment, etc.).
• Follow the sampling frequency indicated in the Quality Plan for quality monitoring in production and delivery.
• Perform quality control of aggregates (particle size, LA, micro Deval, etc.) and asphalt mixes (bitumen extraction, particle size, mass density, etc.) according to current standards and procedures.
• Record the results in the appropriate systems.
• Notify the lab technician of any non-conformance.
• Clean the laboratory at the end of each day and perform basic equipment maintenance.
• Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.

What We’re Looking For

• CEGEP, DEC, or Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC) (materials quality control, civil engineering, or equivalent).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office / G-Suite.

Additional Requirements

• Be concerned about the accuracy of the information collected.
• Fluency in French (spoken and written).
• Valid driver’s license (class 5).
• Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protective Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
