Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking a General Helper to assist in meal preparation, presentation and service, ensuring quality and consistent portioning in a busy production environment.

The role supports various stations, with strict adherence to food safety and sanitation practices. It involves following recipes, working with team members, and adapting to a fast-paced setting on a 10-hour shift with a 20-on/10-off rotation.

Qualifications

  • Experience in food service settings such as restaurants, banquets, or camps.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lb.
  • Good command of English, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense food for next day of production and plate meals.

  • Store food in designated areas following wrapping, dating, food safety and rotation procedures.
  • Perform general cleaning duties; remove trash and garbage to designated areas.
  • Distribute supplies, utensils and portable equipment.
  • Utilize approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control.
  • Assure compliance with all sanitation and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work in various workstations including meal distribution area (packaging).
  • Willing to learn skid wrapping of finished product.
  • Food preparation and cooking as needed.

Job description

The General Helper will be responsible for preparing, presenting and serving meals, ensuring the quality of the food and overall presentation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Dispense food for next day of production and plate individual meals
  • Conduct work in accordance with safety standards
  • Store food in designated areas following wrapping, dating, food safety and rotation procedures
  • Perform general cleaning duties; remove trash and garbage to designated areas
  • Distribute supplies, utensils and portable equipment
  • Utilize approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control
  • Assure compliance with all sanitation and safety requirements
  • Ability to work in various workstations including meal distribution area (packaging)
  • Willing to learn skid wrapping of finished product
  • Food preparation and cooking as needed
Qualifications
  • Food service experience in a restaurant, banquet or camp environment is an asset
  • Food Safe Certification is an asset
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to be able to manage workload
  • Ability to work both independently and in team setting as required
  • Good command of English language, both verbal and written and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Previous food service experience in healthcare, hotel, restaurant, or fast food is considered an asset
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Minor heavy lifting may be involved (up to 40 lb.)
Position Requirements
  • Pass a Drug & Alcohol Test
  • Pass a Criminal Record Check
  • Shift: 10hr/Day
  • Rotation: 20 Days on/10 Days off

The hourly wage for this position is $18.43. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
