Job summary

City of Hamilton is seeking a Planner I in Community Planning to translate theory into practical policy applications. You will lead community consultation, review plans, and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to develop and implement neighbourhood and secondary plans.

The role requires a Honours Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, a CPP designation or candidacy, and strong analytical and communication skills. Excellent collaboration with departments and stakeholders is essential.

Qualifications

  • Honours Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field; two years of professional planning experience.
  • Full member or candidate member of Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Expertise in at least two areas: strategic planning, policy analysis, sustainable development, economics, or land use planning.
  • Strong research, analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Secondary Plans and review land use plans in coordination with other departments and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate project teams and manage planning projects, monitoring deliverables.
  • Lead public engagement processes and present recommendations to Committees and City Council.
  • Provide planning support and mentorship to junior planners as required.
  • Prepare and present evidence at hearings and at City Council meetings.
