Job summary

The City of Hamilton is seeking a Planner I in Community Planning to translate complex planning theory into practical neighbourhood policies, coordinate public engagement, and guide projects with staff and consultants. You will prepare area plans, review zoning and development applications, provide evidence at hearings, and support junior staff.

This hybrid, full-time role offers varied exposure to municipal planning processes.

Qualifications

  • Honours degree in urban planning with relevant professional experience.
  • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners or candidacy required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Expertise in planning analysis, development policy or land use planning.
  • Strong research, writing and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Translate planning theory into practical neighbourhood policy applications.
  • Lead community consultation processes and coordinate project consultants.
  • Provide policy interpretation, make presentations and develop partnerships.
  • Prepare secondary plans and review zoning/land use planning matters.
  • Coordinate and oversee multi-disciplinary teams on planning initiatives.
  • Present evidence at hearings and liaise with Council and stakeholders.
