Job summary

Querentia is seeking a Junior Software / Data Engineer in Toronto, ON (Hybrid) for a 3-month contract with possible extension. The role focuses on Python-based development, data pipelines, APIs, and backend services, with PySpark/Spark data processing and team collaboration in an Agile environment.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of hands-on Python experience, exposure to data engineering tools, and a solid grasp of testing, cloud basics, and Git workflows to support delivery efforts.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in software development, data engineering, or related roles.
• Hands-on Python experience.
• Exposure to PySpark / Spark data processing.
• Experience building data pipelines, APIs, and backend services.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery practices.
• Basic cloud/database knowledge (AWS S3/IAM/RDS, PostgreSQL).
• Experience with Git, code reviews, and issue tracking.
• Understanding of unit/integration testing and data validation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain Python-based applications, data pipelines, APIs, backend services, or features.
• Work with PySpark and Spark-based data processing as part of data engineering.
• Deliver tasks based on defined requirements and technical direction.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies (planning, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives).
• Collaborate with developers, QA, and DevOps for delivery.
• Apply testing fundamentals: unit, integration, and data validation.
• Engage in Git-based workflows, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Support data and application workloads using cloud and DB services.
• Leverage AI-assisted coding tools to improve productivity and code quality.
