Vertex is seeking a motivated Junior Project Estimator to join our Sherwood Park Operations team. The role involves preparing accurate project estimates, supporting bid submissions, coordinating resources, and analyzing costs across industrial services and oil & gas projects.

Ideal candidates are highly organized, detail-oriented, and analytical, with strong Excel skills and a willingness to learn. On-site work in Sherwood Park and occasional after-hours support are required.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of oil & gas, industrial services, construction, environmental, or related industries preferred.
• Advanced Excel and data analysis skills required.

Responsibilities

• Review project specs, RFPs/RFQs and client documents to determine labour, equipment, materials, subcontractor, and operational needs.
• Assist in developing accurate project cost estimates and bid proposals.
• Contact suppliers/subcontractors to obtain pricing, availability and discounts.
• Build, maintain, and validate detailed Excel models and estimating tools.
• Analyze project data and ensure calculations and documentation are accurate.

OVERVIEW

Vertex is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Project Estimator to join our Operations team in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to build a long-term career within the industrial services and oil & gas industry. Working closely with Operations, Project Management, and Business Development teams, the successful candidate will play a critical role in preparing accurate project estimates, supporting bid submissions, coordinating resources, and analyzing project costs.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and comfortable working with large volumes of data. They possess exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn. A minor error in an estimate can significantly impact project outcomes, making accuracy and data integrity critical to success in this role.

Experience in industrial cleaning, tank cleaning, turnaround services, oilfield services, or a related industry is considered a strong asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review project specifications, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), RFQs, and client documentation to determine labour, equipment, materials, subcontractor, and operational requirements.
• Assist in developing accurate project cost estimates and bid proposals.
• Contact suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing, quotations, availability, and material discounts.
• Build, maintain, and validate detailed Excel spreadsheets, costing models, and estimating tools.
• Analyze project data and ensure all calculations, pricing, and supporting documentation are accurate and complete.
• Collaborate with Operations, Project Managers, and Business Development personnel to develop effective execution strategies and resource plans.
• Support project planning activities, including personnel, equipment, and subcontractor coordination.
• Prepare professional proposals, bid packages, and supporting client documentation.
• Assist with project turnover processes following bid award by providing accurate estimate information and supporting documentation to operations teams.
• Track bid outcomes and support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing estimate performance and pricing trends.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding project, pricing, client, and commercial information.
• Travel to project sites and client locations as required.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• Diploma or degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Economics, Data Analytics, Statistics, or a related field.
• Recent graduates and early-career professionals are encouraged to apply.
• 1-3 years of experience within the oil & gas, industrial services, construction, environmental, or related industries is preferred.
• Experience in industrial cleaning, tank cleaning, facility maintenance, turnarounds, or related field operations is considered a strong asset.

Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
• Strong aptitude for working with numbers, data analysis, and cost calculations.
• Excellent computer skills and ability to learn internal software systems quickly.
• Experience interpreting technical documents, drawings, and project specifications is an asset.

Additional Requirements

• Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
• Willingness to work on-site in Sherwood Park.
• Ability to travel to project locations when required.
• Willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends to support operational requirements.
• Experience operating equipment such as forklifts, telehandlers, or picker trucks is considered an asset.
