Job summary

Alberta Motor Association (AMA) is seeking a Junior Payroll/HRIS Coordinator to join our Human Resources team in a hybrid role. You will gain hands-on experience supporting payroll processes, maintaining employee data, and ensuring payroll is completed accurately and on schedule.

We welcome recent graduates or those early in their payroll career, offering training, mentorship, and exposure to Workday payroll plus HRIS.

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate or early in payroll career with a willingness to learn payroll concepts and Workday.
  • Foundational knowledge of Canadian payroll concepts or willingness to learn.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with customers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day payroll administration including biweekly payroll processing.
  • Maintain employee data accuracy and ensure payroll on schedule.
  • Support ROEs and payroll documentation under guidance of payroll team.
  • Participate in year-end payroll activities and reporting.
  • Assist with payroll compliance and data validation through audits.
  • Learn payroll policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.

We see experience with AI‑powered tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and similar platforms as a real plus - especially when it’s used to work smarter, increase efficiency, and find better ways to get things done.Who You AreYou handle confidential employee and payroll information with professionalism, discretion, and care.You have a strong eye for detail and take pride in producing accurate work while learning payroll processes and procedures.You are highly organized and able to manage competing priorities while meeting important payroll deadlines.You are a collaborative team player who enjoys supporting colleagues and building positive working relationships across the organization.You are a clear and approachable communicator who is comfortable assisting employees and escalating questions when needed.You are curious, resourceful, and willing to ask questions to better understand processes, systems, and payroll requirements.You are comfortable working with technology and eager to learn payroll, HRIS, and other business systems.You enjoy problem-solving and are committed to finding accurate solutions while maintaining a strong attention to detail.You are adaptable and open to learning new processes, tools, and ways of working in a supportive team environment.How You’ll Make an ImpactSupport day-to-day payroll administration duties, including processing biweekly payroll in a timely and accurate manner using Workday Payroll.Receive hands-on training and mentorship from an experienced payroll team, including exposure to:Full payroll processing cycle (pre-processing reports, payroll audits, and period-end activities)Records of Employment (ROEs) and employee payroll documentationPayroll adjustments, absence corrections, and data validationYear-end payroll processes and reportingPayroll legislation and compliance requirementsAssist with payroll calculations and data validation, including earnings, overtime, bonuses, allowances, and statutory deductions under the guidance of the payroll team.Validate payroll results through audits, reconciliations, and exception reporting.Support payroll audits and reconciliations to help ensure accurate tax withholdings, deductions, and payroll processing.Learn and apply payroll policies, procedures, and legislative requirements while supporting a compliant payroll process.Assist with payroll reporting, reconciliations, and year-end activities, including support for T4/T4A preparation.Stay current with payroll legislation and Workday payroll functionality.What You Bring to the TableRecent completion of a diploma, certificate, or degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting, Payroll, or a related field is considered an asset.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for payroll analysis and reporting.Prior hands-on payroll administration experience considered an asset.Working towards or completion of Canadian Payroll Association certification (PCP or equivalent) preferred.Foundational knowledge of Canadian payroll concepts and employment legislation, or a willingness to learn.High attention to detail with strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deliver effective service to employees and stakeholders.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Belonging Matters HereAMA is committed to providing an inclusive, respectful, and accessible environment.
