Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Junior Mechanical/Piping Designer to join the Integrated Design team. You will work on a variety of energy and resource projects, from studies to detailed engineering, across North America and beyond.

In this role you’ll design piping and mechanical systems, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to contract drawings, isometrics, and field interpretation. The position offers opportunities for growth within a global design firm.

Qualifications

  • At least 1–3 years experience in the industrial consulting industry.
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
  • Strong collaborative, written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Access) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare or coordinate contract drawings, sketches, and concept design through to construction.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical group members, other disciplines and clients to achieve project success.
  • Carry out assignments on project design teams.

Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Junior Mechanical/Piping Designer to join the Integrated Design team. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects within the Energy and Resource sector, ranging from studies to detailed engineering projects in North America and across the world. This role offers the chance to be part of a diverse team while focusing on technical growth.

As a Mechanical/Piping Designer, you will be responsible for working on various industrial projects, performing design work under minimal supervision. You will be relied on to make sound mechanical designs and to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply design skills to prepare or coordinate the preparation of contract drawings, sketches, and concept design through to construction.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical group members, other Stantec disciplines and clients to achieve project success.
  • Successfully carry out assignments on project design teams.
  • P&ID and Flow Diagram preparation.
  • Effectively communicate with other team members in the department or project team.
  • Drawing preparation using AutoCAD, Plant3D, Cadworx, Inventor, SolidWorks, Revit, AvevaE3D, MicroStation, etc.
  • 3D modeling and design of piping and mechanical systems.
  • Data collection and verification in our client’s facilities.
  • Preparation of isometric drawings.
  • Field representation and drawing interpretation.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • At least 1–3 years experience in the industrial consulting industry.
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
  • Strong collaborative skills while working with a single or multi‑discipline team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Understanding of Stantec’s Employee Health and Safety (EH&S) program, with a focus on safety in the field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically in Windows, Word, Excel and Access is an asset.
  • Ability to work in an environment of constantly changing technology and project assignments.
Education and Experience
  • Technical degree, diploma, certificate or equivalent in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1–3 years of experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario: $53,100.00 – $71,700.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
