Job summary

BWXT Canada Ltd. in Cambridge, Ontario is seeking a Junior Manufacturing Engineer – Process Improvement & Development to strengthen shop processes and documentation.

You will help identify wastes, develop lean improvements, and support manufacturing with routing, tooling, and KPI-related activities. The role focuses on reducing cycle time, improving throughput, and boosting quality by implementing lean-based strategies and supporting cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • New graduates or up to 2 years experience.
  • Understanding of basic drafting, engineering calculations, and CAD/SolidWorks.
  • Exposure to lean concepts; willingness to train in lean methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and improve shop routings and procedures (Fitting, Welding, Machining, Assembly, Testing).
  • Identify required resources, tooling, fixtures, and procedural standards.
  • Support value stream mapping, process flow analysis, bottleneck identification, and cycle time reduction initiatives.
  • Participate in OEE/OLE KPI development and monitoring.
  • Assist in resolving non-conforming product conditions through root cause analysis and corrective documentation.
  • Assist in designing/adjusting tools, fixtures, rigging plans, or sketches using classical or FEA engineering principles (training provided).
  • Provide shop-level support and training for improved procedures.
  • Support lean culture by helping coach peers on problem-solving and continuous improvement tools.

Position Overview

As our Junior Manufacturing Engineer – Process Improvement & Development you will support manufacturing operations by developing, refining, and improving shop processes, documentation, and workflows. This role focuses on identifying inefficiencies, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and implementing lean-based process enhancements to improve throughput, quality, and productivity.

Your Day to Day as our Junior Manufacturing Engineer – Process Improvement & Development
Shop Documentation & Process Development
  • Prepare and improve shop routings and procedures (Fitting, Welding, Machining, Assembly, Testing).

Process Improvement & Lean Projects

The base salary range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) at the start of employment is expected to be between $68000 and $91000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
