Job summary

BWXT Canada Ltd. in Cambridge, ON, seeks a Junior Weld Engineer – Process Improvement & Development to support welding procedures, documentation, and lean initiatives.

You will assist in PQR/WPS work, tooling support, and shop training while contributing to process improvements and KPI tracking in welding operations. New grads welcomed, with up to 2 years experience. Hybrid schedules and competitive compensation offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline is required.
  • New graduates or up to 2 years experience preferred.
  • Understanding of welding fundamentals, drafting/CAD, and basic engineering calculations.
  • Exposure to lean workflows or interest in learning lean methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in welding documentation and development, including PQRs and WPS support.
  • Participate in welding process flow analysis and value stream activities.
  • Support KPI tracking and improvement trending in welding operations.
  • Assist in reviewing non-conformances related to welding under supervision.
  • Aid in designing welding tooling and fixtures and support equipment procurement.

Position Overview

As our Junior Weld Engineer – Process Improvement & Development you will assist welding operations by supporting the development, refinement, and optimization of welding procedures, documentation, workflows, and welding-related continuous improvement initiatives. Focus is placed on evaluating welding processes, supporting welder qualification documentation, and contributing to lean-driven improvements

Your Day to Day as our Junior Weld Engineer – Process Improvement & Development
Welding Documentation & Development
  • Assist in preparing PQRs and WPS documentation.
  • Support identification of welding-related resources, tooling, equipment, consumables, and QA requirements.
Process Improvement & Lean Application
  • Participate in welding process flow analysis, bottleneck identification, cycle-time reduction, and value stream activities.
  • Support KPI tracking and improvement trending within welding operations.
Non-Conformance Support
  • Assist in reviewing and resolving welding-related non-conformances under supervision.
Tooling & Equipment Support
  • Aid in designing welding tooling and fixtures, including basic strength checks or FEA support as trained.
  • Assist in equipment procurement and maintenance tracking for welding assets.
Training & Shop Support
  • Provide training on welding processes you become familiar with.
  • Help promote lean culture through coaching and CI participation.
Required Qualifications

The base salary range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) at the start of employment is expected to be between $68000 and $91000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
