Job summary

Magna International Limited's Cosma division in Ontario is seeking an industrial engineer focused on manufacturing processes and plant layout. You will design packaging requirements, optimize line layouts, and apply design and process techniques to meet customer requirements.

You will collaborate with customers and suppliers, use CAD systems, and drive continuous improvement and safe production. The role requires mechanical engineering background and 1–2 years in automotive settings.

Qualifications

• College diploma or university degree in the mechanical engineering field.
• Minimum 1-2 years related experience in the automotive field.
• Minimum 1-2 years' experience with the latest CAD software modules: design and layout.
• Effective communication skills both within the company and dealing directly with customers and suppliers.
• In depth knowledge of process improvement tools, product design techniques, mechanical drawing standards and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Designing new packaging requirements based on customer functional, appearance, strength, reliability, durability requirements.
• Modifying design of existing plant layout based on internal/external customer requirements.
• Utilizing product/process design techniques such as Cycle Time Charting, FMEA, Design, Design for Manufacturing, Design of Experiment.
• Providing prompt and efficient customer service pertaining to product design for manufacturability.
• Maintaining a thorough knowledge of product design techniques and all CAD software systems.
• Exchanging data with customers and suppliers.
• Keeping appropriate records of all pertinent data files.
• Evaluating inspection reports utilizing CAD software and electronic part model data.
• Staying current with improvements in all uptime/downtime processing systems.
• Initiating and driving justification for upgrades to processing, equipment and WIP, to enhance performance of system and value to the customer.
• Provide expertise in industrial engineering and process design to other departments.
• Assist in development of engineering department procedures related to design and electronic design database and maintain strict adherence to company and engineering department regulations and procedures.
• Participates in Continuous Improvement and assist in its implementation on an ongoing basis.
