Job summary

Motion Industries in Canada is seeking a skilled machinist to set up, operate, and tune lathes, mills and grinders, following drawings and instructions to produce replacement parts and experimental components.

You will measure with micrometers and calipers, adjust feeds and speeds, verify tolerances, and assemble or install parts and fixtures as required. A high school diploma or GED is typical; CAD/CAM knowledge is valued. Hourly pay with benefits.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of metals and measurements used in machining.
  • Familiar with machinist, CAD and CAM software.
  • Strong mathematics and its application in manufacturing.
  • Understanding of production processes, quality control and costs.
  • Ability to read gauges/indicators to verify machine status.
  • Experience safely handling/powering metalworking tools like piranha, shears and brakes.

Responsibilities

  • Machine parts to specifications using lathes, mills, shapers or grinders.
  • Measure and test completed units with micrometers and calipers.
  • Set up and adjust machines for precision operations.
  • Study drawings/blueprints to determine operation sequences.
  • Install or repair parts, fixtures and tooling as required.
  • Verify machine performance and maintain proper lubrication/cooling.
