Junior Learning and Development Specialist
Location: Downtown, Toronto - Hybrid
Duration: 12 Months
Position Purpose:
The Learning Developer role works as part of a collaborative and experienced team of workplace learning professionals who partner with business representatives and learning colleagues to determine the most efficient and effective learning solutions, primarily in support of new product and process initiatives with a focus on sales, technical, and operational skills training.
Key Accountabilities:
- Partner with key business contacts and learning colleagues to stay informed of product, process, and system initiatives, focusing on role-specific employee learning needs and impacts on new-to-role programs.
- Conduct needs assessments for assigned projects to understand business initiatives and strategies, confirm performance outcomes required of the training, and establish learning objectives.
- Assess learning implications and validate the impact of new product, process, and system initiatives on existing learning programs.
- Research potential solutions and recommend approaches to the business, ensuring design solutions leverage existing internal and external resources.
- Update existing training materials, including facilitator guides, learner guides, activities, and test questions.
- Leverage existing design templates and adhere to instructional design standards.
- Support and execute learner evaluations appropriate for the learning channel and format.
- Research emerging learning design and development trends to ensure the organization optimizes a full range of learning channels to enhance employee capability effectively and cost-efficiently.
- Adhere to project governance models and maintenance schedules.
- Forecast and track resource time for each project using learning tools and processes, submitting weekly updates.
- Support other large-scale product and process initiatives as required under team lead guidance.
- Assist in curriculum updates for new-to-role training programs and design elements of larger, multi-faceted learning initiatives.
Must-have Skills/Experiences:
- University degree and/or expertise in adult education, learning principles, and workplace learning experience.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Specialist in learning design and development, capable of creating small to mid-size learning projects and developing learning materials hands-on.
- Utilizes sound adult learning principles and proven methodologies to build focused learning solutions.
- Proven subject matter knowledge in the relevant business area.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office products.
- Excellent written communication skills, with attention to detail and quality.
- Strong verbal communication and influencing skills, able to articulate project requirements clearly, work effectively with teams, and develop ongoing relationships.
