Job description

Join to apply for the Junior/Intermediate Fisheries Biologist role at Alberta Conservation Association.

Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) is seeking a highly motivated individual with keen interests in conservation and sustainable use of aquatic resources to join our Fisheries Program. This is a full-time position based out of one of our offices in Alberta (Blairmore, Cochrane, Lethbridge, Peace River, Rocky Mountain House, and Sherwood Park).

Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Assist with the development and delivery of projects related to fish population assessment, sport fishery evaluation, recreational fish stocking, lake aeration, water quality monitoring, fisheries and fish habitat restoration and enhancement, invasive species monitoring, and implementation of species recovery and management plans.
  • Primary responsibilities include project planning, field surveys, data analysis, report writing, and meeting deadlines.
  • Work in a team environment and independently, primarily on projects in the Fisheries Program, with potential participation in other ACA program areas.
  • Periodic work during non-traditional hours, including weekends and holidays, and travel throughout Alberta.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Aquatic Biology or related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with backpack electrofishing
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Strong data management and analytical skills
  • Ability to perform in various field conditions
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
