Intermediate Environmental Professional (Agrologist, Biologist, Engineer)

Aspen Land Group Inc. is a small environmental consulting company specializing in environmental management and permitting of aggregate extraction operations. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Aspen has been providing consulting services to the Alberta aggregate industry for more than 15 years and offers a dynamic work environment that encourages and supports the growth and development of our employees. We’re seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual to join our team who can fill an intermediate environmental professional position on a full-time permanent basis.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Prepare regulatory authorization applications and reports under the Code of Practice for Pits, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Water Act, Public Lands Act, and municipal bylaws.
  2. Coordinate and perform field assessments including but not limited to detailed pre-disturbance biophysical assessments (vegetation and soils), wetland assessments, and/or detailed site assessments of reclaimed sand and gravel pits.
  3. Assess and determine compliance of operations and legislated requirements (i.e. approvals, licences, registrations, codes of practice, etc.) for compliance assurance and reporting purposes.
  4. Prepare and review work plans and cost estimates.
  5. Manage projects to meet timelines and budgets.
  6. Maintain client relations and manage client needs.

Qualifications

  1. A University Degree or Two-year Diploma in environmental sciences, or a related field.
  2. Professional designation or eligibility with either the Alberta Institute of Agrologists, College of Alberta Professional Foresters, Alberta Society of Professional Biologists, or the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.
  3. A minimum of 5 years of experience working in environmental regulatory permitting and/or conducting environmental assessments; experience in the sand and gravel industry is considered an asset.
  4. Strong computer skills and competence using Windows, Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  5. Working knowledge of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Code of Practice for Pits, Water Act, the Alberta Wetland Policy, Public Lands Act, and associated regulations.
  6. Ability to mentor junior staff.
  7. Excellent communication, writing, organization, and time management skills.
  8. Ability to work outdoors and travel periodically throughout the province.
  9. A positive attitude related to Health and Safety.
  10. Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
