Job description
The Opportunity:

MeshGrid HR client is an innovative industry leading company that provides engineering services to the electric utility industry. They are growing the civil engineering team and currently seeking an individual as a Civil Engineer-EIT to provide support to the company. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a great team environment at a fast-growing company.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary design team, associates e.g. geotechnical engineer and client reviewers as needed.
  • Assure design conformance to Client and Company design standards.
  • Prepare layouts, conceptual designs, calculations, illustrations for distribution and transmission civil/structural projects. Work would mainly include underground structure design, and structural/dimensional calculations, field work, drawings, material lists and work instructions.
  • Willing to assist in a variety of project support activities including project coordination, strategic planning, client support, and business analysis supporting the business development and project management departments.
  • Support documentation process for projects including technical specifications, tender documents, technical reports and project calculations.
  • Interface with other design disciplines, coordinate with related stakeholders, and assist team leads and managers.
  • Perform site visits to project locations.
Qualifications:
  • A Degree in civil engineering from a recognized engineering educational institution. Specializing in Structural Engineering for steel and concrete designs.
  • Registered or eligible to register as an EIT with EGBC.
  • Civil Engineering design experience in an electrical utility environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Utility Civil standards an asset. Knowledge of Power Transmission and Distribution networks and standards an asset. Experience with BC Hydro's design systems and standards an asset.
  • Experience with finite element modeling and analysis.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills needed to communicate effectively.
  • Class 5 driver's license and ability to travel occasionally.
  • Familiar with BC Hydro Standards, design codes and guides such as Transmission Maintenance Standard 80.4001-01, ASCE/SEI 48, ASCE 10, ASTM A394, CSA A23.3, CSA B33.4, CSA G164, CSA O15, CSA S16, CSA S37 and IEEE 691.
