McElhanney Ltd. is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer-in-training (EIT) to join our Transportation division in Kamloops, BC, starting May 2027 or after graduation.

You will work with senior engineers and designers on municipal roadway, provincial highway, and active transportation projects across the BC Interior and Western Canada. You’ll support design, alignments using Civil 3D, and prepare memos, cost estimates, and tender packages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution.
• Eligibility for registration as an EIT with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
• Working knowledge of Civil 3D.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to conduct occasional field work.

Responsibilities

• Support design and analysis of roadway, intersection, and other transportation projects in rural and urban environments.
• Prepare horizontal and vertical alignments, cross‑sections, grading, and design details using Civil 3D.
• Assist with preparation of technical memos, design reports, cost estimates, and tender packages.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Junior Civil Engineer-in- training (EIT) to join our growing Transportation division in Kamloops, BC starting May 2027 or after graduation. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about transportation design, construction, and project delivery, and who wants to contribute to community-shaping infrastructure projects across the BC Interior and Western Canada. You’ll work alongside senior engineers, technologists, and designers to deliver projects ranging from municipal roadways and provincial highway design and rehabilitation to active transportation infrastructure and intersection improvements. This role is not fully remote and requires regular collaboration with the local team, client meetings, and project activities.

What You’ll Do

• Supporting the design and analysis of roadway, intersection, and other transportation projects in rural and urban environments.
• Preparing horizontal and vertical alignments, cross‑sections, grading, and design details using Civil 3D.
• Assisting with the preparation of technical memos, design reports, cost estimates, and tender packages.
• Completing construction supervision and contract administration in support of project delivery in the field. Including project management, construction survey, and materials inspection as required.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across British Columbia and Western Canada.
• Contributing to proposals, project coordination, and client communication as your experience grows.

What You’ll Bring

• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution.
• Relevant engineering experience.
• Eligibility for registration as an EIT with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
• Familiarity with BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit and/or municipal transportation design and construction standards is an asset.
• Working knowledge of Civil 3D is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn from senior mentors.
• A valid driver’s license and ability to conduct occasional field work.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
