Job summary

CBCL Limited is seeking an Engineer-in-Training or Junior Industrial Process Engineer to join our Industrial team in Halifax, NS or Fredericton, NB. This role targets early-career engineers building practical process experience in pulp and paper, forestry, tissue manufacturing, and related sectors.

You will work under experienced engineers and project managers, supporting design, data collection, feasibility studies, and commissioning across project stages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Engineer-in-Training registration or eligible for registration with APEGNB.
• 2–4 years of experience in industrial process, specifically pulp and paper.
• Foundational knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, and process calculations.
• Interest in feasibility studies, plant assessments, process optimization, and capital projects.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn from senior engineers and develop skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with creation of PFDs, P&IDs, mass/energy balances, and process calculations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery.

• Assist with technical documentation, proposal inputs, cost estimates, and project coordination.
• Provide support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Develop technical skills through hands-on project experience and mentoring.

Job description

We are seeking an Engineer-in-Training or Junior Industrial Process Engineer to join our growing Industrial team in either Halifax, NS or Fredericton, NB. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer who is interested in developing practical process engineering experience within industrial facilities, including pulp and paper, forestry, tissue manufacturing, and related process sectors.

As an Engineer-in-Training or Junior Industrial Process Engineer, you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers and project managers to support process engineering assignments through each stage of project delivery, from data collection and preliminary design through detailed engineering, construction support, and commissioning.

Your key responsibilities:

• Support process engineering assignments for pulp and paper, forestry, tissue manufacturing, and other industrial process facilities.
• Assist with the preparation of process engineering deliverables including process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, mass and energy balances, process calculations, and technical reports.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and automation specialists to support coordinated project delivery.
• Support feasibility studies, process optimization initiatives, facility expansions, modernization projects, and operational improvement assignments.
• Participate in process assessments, field reviews, data collection, equipment evaluations, and plant performance reviews.
• Assist with technical documentation, proposal inputs, cost estimates, and project coordination activities as required.
• Provide support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities under the direction of senior technical staff.
• Build your technical skills through hands‑on project experience, mentoring, and exposure to a broad range of industrial process engineering work.

Your capabilities and credentials:

• Bachelor’s degree in one of Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Registered as an Engineer-in-Training, or eligible for registration with APEGNB or
• 2–4 years of experience in industrial process specifically in Pulp and Paper processes.
• Foundational understanding of process design concepts, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, mass and energy balances, process calculations, and equipment selection.
• Interest in supporting feasibility studies, plant assessments, process optimization initiatives, and capital improvement projects.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn from experienced engineers while developing technical knowledge and consulting skills.

• Competitive salary: $65,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience.
  

To meet pay transparency requirements, compensation ranges are included for roles in locations where required by law. The salary range listed for this position represents the expected hiring range; actual starting compensation will vary based on factors such as professional experience, technical expertise, credentials, and alignment with the role's requirements, as well as internal compensation structures and market data. Beyond base salary, CBCL provides a comprehensive total rewards package that includes health and dental benefits and a pension program from your first day of employment, along with eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
