Job summary

Desjardins in Toronto is seeking an experienced in-house lawyer to manage an independent case load from start to finish across auto claims, accident benefits, bodily injury, and coverage work, within a collaborative team. You will assess liability and damages for claims partners, draft opinions, pleadings and motions, and lead Examinations for Discovery, LAT hearings, and court appearances.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in law or JD or related field
• Minimum of five years of relevant experience
• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
• Experience with trials/arbitrations
• Experience with Accident Benefits and Bodily Injury Insurance

Responsibilities

• Independently carry a case load from start to finish
• Provide assessments to claims partners on liability and damages
• Draft opinions, pleadings, and motions
• Conduct Examinations for Discovery
• Attend LAT hearings/arbitrations and court appearances for motions, pre-trials and trials
• Contribute to growth of legal knowledge with colleagues
