We are seeking out hard-working and motivated individuals to join our Materials Technology Team as a Junior Field Technician at our Ottawa location. You will join a team of enthusiastic and dedicated technicians while operating under the supervision and mentorship of our civil and geotechnical engineering professionals.

Your role will include :

  • Providing technical assistance in materials engineering and testing related projects and tasks, including carrying out field and laboratory testing of various materials on construction sites, in-situ density testing with a nuclear densometer gauge and testing of concrete and asphalt materials;
  • Carrying out and supporting field work operations for subsurface geotechnical and pavement and materials investigations including layout, operating specialized equipment, supervising subcontractors, logging boreholes and test pits, site surveying to determine elevations at specific locations, sampling concrete, asphalt, soil and groundwater, and providing detailed site sketches;
  • Performing construction site reconnaissance, inspections and observations;
  • Working with and providing support to other members of the group in assisting with other field, laboratory and office activities as required;
  • Carrying out laboratory tests on soils, aggregates, concrete and other construction materials to various industry standards;
  • Performing general laboratory testing of aggregate, concrete, soils and various other construction materials.

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications :

  • College diploma in a Geotechnical, Civil Engineering program or a Civil Engineering Technology or Construction;
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience;
  • CCIL certification or ACI level 1 and 2 certification for concrete testing an asset
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
  • Team player, cooperate with other staff, willing to work nights when required
  • Ability to meet challenging deadlines
  • G Driver’s license and reliable automobile
