Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
A junior engineer designs and plans processes, tools, and equipment needed for high quality, efficient planning, construction, repair, testing/commissioning, and delivery of ships, applying broad theoretical knowledge typically obtained through advanced education, and/or early work experience. A junior engineer's work is closely supervised, and problems faced are not typically difficult or complex. A junior engineer is expected to explain facts, policies and practices related to their assigned job scope across theoretical, practical, and/or lean engineering disciplines in a shipbuilding environment.
As a junior engineer working as part of the Field Service Engineering team, you will provide engineering support to our Production team. You will review the ship's design using the 3D model, 2D drawings, and production bill of materials to investigate inquiries. You will work closely with other departments, including Production, Planning, Supply Chain, and other engineering groups, to ensure our production team can be successful based on the ship design information. You will be responsible for developing engineering change requests as required design updates are identified. This includes development of redline drawing and engineering sketches, bill of materials, and other documentation related to engineering change implementation. You may also be required to work within other engineering groups, interfacing with our design agent, material suppliers, and the customer to discuss items related to the ship design. You must be able to oversee and execute multiple ongoing tasks while working in a high-paced environment with minimal supervision. You must be a team player who works well with other engineers of all disciplines. You will, in some cases, be required to support engineering inquiries related to other engineering disciplines.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Originate, under the supervision of a licensed P.Eng, routine or low to medium complexity deliverables in an assigned job scope area.
  • Review detail design information using the 3D model, 2D drawings, and production bill of materials.
  • Review and resolve engineering defects related to the ships design.
  • Identify risks associated within their job scope area, their function, or the broader Engineering discipline.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within their job scope area and the broader engineering discipline.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng) or equivalent.
  • Understanding of how to apply standards applicable to role, with guidance - typically via 0-6 years of progressive experience.
  • General awareness of shipyard disciplines (hull structure, ship arrangements, ship piping systems, propulsion, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, producibility, manufacturing).
  • Some exposure to or interest in marine field through work experience (e.g. co-op) or academic study.
  • Read blueprints, navigate within a 3D model and/or simulation of the ship.
  • Develop or markup drawings, technical investigation and data analysis under supervision.
  • Analytical problem solving under supervision; develop presentations and reports.
