Job description

Junior Developers (Talent Incubation Program)
About Us

Jarvis is a global data, A.I and technology consulting services firm with teams in Toronto, Montreal, Europe and North Africa. Our unwavering dedication is rooted in propelling businesses toward sustained success while making a positive impact on communities. Our diverse team comprises expert advisors and forward-thinking technologists who work tirelessly to unlock the full potential of businesses, ensuring the consistent delivery of exceptional results. One of our key focuses is assisting capable individuals who have faced challenges in entering the job market, including recent graduates, immigrants and those returning to work.

Why This Role

Many qualified candidates are overlooked early on, often due to factors unrelated to their abilities. This can include a lack of Canadian experience, a resume gap, or simply a reluctance to give new graduates a chance. We prioritize attitude and aptitude over a polished resume. If you’re reliable, coachable, and eager to build something, we’ll invest the time and effort to prepare you for client placement.

  • Paid position for the full training period.
  • Open to new grads, recent immigrants, people returning to the workforce, and anyone who hasn't had an easy path in.
  • Training is built around real client work, not generic coursework.
  • Long-standing relationships with major Canadian enterprise clients, including several large banks, and a solid track record of placing our people with them.
  • The point is stability. A real, ongoing role with a client, not a short contract or a resume line.
Program Structure
  • Training: A paid training period run by our internal team, covering the tools and practices our clients actually use. We also spend real time on the basics: communication, working with a team, taking feedback.
  • Placement: Once training wraps up, we place graduates on a two-year contract with one of our clients, working as part of their team.
  • Ongoing Support: Support doesn't end at placement. There's mentorship, career support, and certification opportunities while you're on contract.
  • What We Look For: We can build on some coding experience and a genuine eagerness to learn. What we can't teach as easily is showing up, asking good questions, and taking feedback without getting defensive. That matters more to us than a perfect skill match.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Writing, testing, and maintaining code for business applications our clients rely on.
  • Reading and working with existing codebases, not just building things from scratch.
  • Working with structured data and relational databases, including writing and troubleshooting queries and related technologies.
  • Following documented processes and change procedures when you're updating production systems.
  • Collaborating with your team to understand client needs and propose practical solutions.
  • Troubleshooting defects and issues in existing applications and batch jobs.
  • Taking part in different stages of a client engagement, from gathering requirements through delivery.
  • Staying open to different kinds of placements across our client base, including work with established enterprise systems.
  • This training cohort may lead to a stable mainframe developer role, so candidates should be open to placement in this area.
What You'll Need
  • The right mix of attitude and aptitude. We can build on some coding experience with someone who's reliable, coachable, and serious about building a career.
  • A university degree, or a college diploma or certificate in a related field.
  • A genuine eagerness to learn. You'll be picking up new languages, tools, and platforms throughout training and on placement, so curiosity matters as much as what you already know.
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Some grasp of core programming fundamentals, like data structures, control flow, and procedural or object-oriented concepts.
  • Willingness to learn older or less common languages and platforms, such as COBOL, PL/I, or JCL, if a placement calls for it. No prior exposure needed, just openness to it.
  • Comfort taking on client requirements that aren't fully spelled out from the start.
  • Strong communication skills. You'll need to explain your work to people who aren't technical.
  • Patience for detail-oriented, process-driven work. Some client environments move carefully and follow strict change controls.
  • New grads, recent immigrants, people returning to work after time away, and anyone who hasn't had an easy path into the job market are all encouraged to apply. We care about your potential as much as your resume.
What We Offer
  • A paid, three-month training program
  • Job stability with a two-year placement with one of our clients, with the potential to convert to a full-time employee.
  • Training built around real client requirements instead of generic coursework.
  • A real path to job stability. We place graduates with clients on two-year contracts, backed by relationships we've built over time and a solid placement record.
  • A flexible hybrid work environment during training.
  • Employee appreciation events.
  • Office location in downtown Toronto, close to transit.
  • A flat structure where you can raise ideas and concerns directly, without a lot of layers in between.
  • Vacation and benefits package.
