Job summary

Util-Assist is seeking a Junior Business Analyst to join our Consulting team. You will engage with clients, analyze data, and translate business needs into actionable requirements to support transformation initiatives across utilities.

You’ll work with experienced consultants on projects spanning AMI, MDM, CIS, customer experience, and digital transformation, gaining exposure to process improvements and reporting. Hybrid work options are available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related discipline
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with utilities, energy, municipal services, or technology projects is a plus
  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements is an asset
  • Experience with Power BI, data analysis, or reporting tools is an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)
  • Familiarity with process mapping tools (Visio/Blueworks)
  • Understanding of Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery methods is a plus
  • Awareness of AI applications in large organizations is a plus
  • Ability to translate information into actionable recommendations
  • Willingness to travel to client sites in North America

Responsibilities

  • Participate in stakeholder interviews, workshops, and discovery sessions.
  • Translate business needs into clear functional requirements.
  • Analyze challenges and identify opportunities for process, operational, and tech improvements.
  • Develop process maps, workflows, use cases, and BA documentation.
  • Support business case development and client recommendations.
  • Contribute to utility transformation engagements (AMI, MDM, CIS, etc.).
  • Conduct gap analyses and research industry trends.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and client-facing materials.
  • Support client meetings and coordinate activities across teams.
  • Assist testing, validation, training, and business readiness.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and issues.
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting.
  • Build relationships with clients and internal teams.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a skilled Junior Business Analyst to join our growing Consulting team! This role is ideal for an early-career professional who enjoys solving problems, working with clients, analyzing data, and collaborating with experienced consultants to deliver meaningful business outcomes. You will gain hands-on exposure to utility operations, business transformation, project delivery, and consulting while building a foundation for a long-term career in the utility industry.

What You’ll be Doing:
  • Participate in stakeholder interviews, workshops, and discovery sessions.
  • Translate business needs into clear functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Analyze business challenges and identify opportunities for process, operational, and technology improvements.
  • Develop process maps, workflows, use cases, and other business analysis documentation.
  • Support business case development and recommendations that help clients achieve measurable business outcomes.
  • Contribute to utility transformation engagements involving areas such as AMI, MDM, CIS, customer experience and digital transformation, grid modernization, operational excellence, and strategic advisory services.
  • Conduct gap analyses, research industry trends and emerging technologies, and support solution evaluations.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, executive summaries, and other client-facing materials.
  • Participate in client meetings and help coordinate activities across clients, vendors, and project teams.
  • Support testing, validation, training, and business readiness activities.
  • Collect and analyze business and operational data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the development of dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting to inform client decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and internal teams and contribute to knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and innovation initiatives.
What You Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering, Economics, Information Technology, Public Administration, or a related discipline
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience
